Local and state officials and community leaders joined Boar’s Head Provisions representatives Tuesday morning for a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the company’s new plant on County Road 400S east of Indiana 3.
Larry Helfant, vice president of Operations for Boar’s Head brand, welcomed the large crowd on hand and thanked Indiana Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann, New Castle Mayor Greg York and New Castle-Henry County Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Corey Murphy for their support before offering a few comments about the company’s decision to locate here.
“We decided to open a new manufacturing facility to produce our premium delicatessen meats. With much consideration, we chose Indiana and New Castle. It became apparent there was something special about this location. This community is an ideal home for our business and I would like to personally thank Henry County and the State of Indiana for their support and for making this possible. This is the beginning of a long-term cooperative business relationship with all of Indiana,” Helfant said.
Lt. Gov. Ellspermann said she was pleased Boar’s Head chose New Castle and Indiana for the site of their new production facility and that she appreciates 200 jobs coming to the state.
“This new facility confirms that Indiana is a state that works for agriculture and food processing as well,” she said.
New Castle Mayor Greg York also welcomed Boar’s Head to town.
“The city and the county have worked very hard to land (Boar’s Head) in our community and we can’t pass along our gratitude enough and say thank you for what you’re going to bring to our community,” York said. “For them to bring their family to our community so we can be part of their family truly is special for New Castle, Henry County, and the State of Indiana.”
Ed Yanos, president of the Henry County Board of Commissioners, in speaking with The Courier-Times, said, “This is one more piece of good news for Henry County. When you couple this with other things going on you realize we’ve got good things going in Henry County and I’m glad to see it happen.”
State Rep. Tom Saunders (R-Lewisville) also expressed his appreciation for the new jobs coming to the area.
“Anytime you can get 200 good paying jobs for Henry County it’s a good day,” Saunders said.
Murphy, who logged a great many hours in the effort to bring Boar’s Head to town, summed up his thoughts very succinctly when he said, “What a great day to be in Henry County!”
Preliminary site work at the new Boar’s Head facility has been underway for the past month. Boar’s Head is scheduled to invest $80 million dollars in the project, which includes building a new plant on 64.7 acres of land in New Castle’s Industrial Park. The company expects to create 200 jobs.
